A) Factors related to gaps in learning and development


  • Phonic delay and insecure phonic knowledge
  • Insecure grasp of limiting concepts and knowledge
  • Communication and Language development
  • Weak Fine motor control
  • Low attainment baseline

Priority Objectives

  1. Maintain a culture of high aspiration and expectation for all children
  2. Support teachers to deliver consistent Quality First Teaching which has an impact on socially disadvantaged children
  3. Maintain early intervention and support for socially disadvantaged children to remove barriers for learning
  4. Continue to increase and improve reading levels and numeracy understanding especially in the early years

B) Factors connected to deprivation


  • Access to basic needs
  • Low levels of ‘cultural capital’ and access to enriching environments
  • Parental attitudes to school
  • Parental efficacy or confidence

Priority Objectives

  1. Support and signpost families and children to remove barriers
  2. Support socially disadvantaged children to make good progress and narrow the gap on their peers through mentoring
  3. Facilitate effective parental pupil support through effective communication and relationships
  4. Increase aspiration, belief and confidence for vulnerable children
  5. ‘Poverty proof’ all learning and enrichment activities

  • Poor Attendance
  • Health issues
  • Lateness

  1. Communicate clear messages about school attendance
  2. Provide or signpost support to maximise attendance
  3. Take consistent and robust action to tackle poor attendance

D) Factors linked to readiness to learn


  • Social, emotional and mental health issues
  • Low self-esteem
  • Difficulties with relationships
  • Lack of self-regulation (concentration, resilience)

  1. Ensure a welltrained and well informed work force
  2. Reduced rates of exclusion for vulnerable children by maintaining constructive responses to poor behaviour
  3. Maintain a supportive, consistent and aspirational culture
