| Art | This half term we will be experimenting with different brush sizes and begin to show control over the types of marks made, as we paint an alien to accompany our story. We will also be using clay to create a 3D model of an alien. | We will be using our drawing skills to observe anatomy linking with our science topic. | English | Linked to our topic ‘Moon Zoom’ we will be focusing on non-fiction texts, writing a recount of the first moon landing. We will also study ‘Fantasy fiction’ reading and writing stories about aliens. For the remainder of the term we will study stories from other cultures, in particular the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’. | Linked to our science topic, we will be exploring poetry about senses. We will then move on to the fictional story ‘The Magic Porridge Pot’. |
| Geography | We will use atlases and globes to locate and identify different countries. Linking with science we will also identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the United Kingdom and the location of hot areas of the world. | As part of our Golden Thread we will be researching when our school was built and how it has changed over time. | Guided Reading | Continuing to teach our phonics programme through our ‘Letters and Sounds’ scheme we will further develop our decoding and fluency. | History | Linking to our topic ‘Moon Zoom’ we will learn about the first moon landing which will help us to study events beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally. We will also be looking at the life of Neil Armstrong, who is a significant individual in the past who has contributed to national and international achievements. | |
| Maths | Our focus this half term will be addition and subtraction within 20. Representing these calculations using part whole models and ten frames. Building on our knowledge of number bonds to 10 we will find number bonds to 20. We will be using a range of concrete resources to help us to investigate place value to 50, along with multiples of 2, 5 and 10. | This half term the focus will be measurement. We will be investigating weight and volume. |
| Music | Continuing to follow our ‘Charanga’ music scheme, this half term we are getting into the groove! We will be comparing songs, playing percussion instruments and singing songs. | Our focus this half term will be on Latin, Jazz and pop music. We will continue to develop our skills comparing songs, playing percussion and of course singing songs. |
| Physical Education | Our focus this half term will be gymnastics. We will have the expertise of an external coach who will guide us through some gymnastic skills enabling us to compile a routine. We will also continue with swimming lessons. | Swimming lessons will continue and in our other PE lesson we will be doing dance, learning to perform dance movements in time with music. |
| Personal, Social, Health Education | Following the Jigsaw scheme unit of work ‘Dreams and Goals’ pupils will share how it feels when they succeed in new challenges and talk about how they celebrate their achievements. | Following the Jigsaw scheme unit of work ‘Healthy Me’ we will be identifying ways to keep our body safe and healthy and recognising how being healthy helps us to feel happy. |
| Religious Education | Our key question for this half term is: ‘Was it always easy for Jesus to show friendship?’ We will be looking at what makes a good friend, why we need friends and debating whether it is always easy to show friendship. | In RE this half term we will be learning about the Easter story. We will be talking about how we would welcome a special visitor and the preparations we would make. |
| Science | Continuing to explore materials and their properties we will be testing different materials to see if they are waterproof. We will also be continuing our work on seasons as we shift our focus to the season of winter. | This half term we will be moving on to the human body. Our seasonal work will continue with looking at the environment and signs of Spring. |
