The Equality Act 2010 introduced a single Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) that applies to public bodies, including maintained schools and Academies, and extends to certain protected characteristics –

- Religion or belief
- Sexual orientation
- Pregnancy and maternity
- Gender reassignment
